Aston Martin announced a new audio system in the DB9

Aston Martin announced it would team up with Bang & Olufsen to put a bespoke audio system in the DB9. Now, the collaboration between the two companies has yielded the BeoSound DB9.

The system was developed exclusively for the DB9 coupe and convertible. Its speakers feature stainless steel grilles that integrate seamlessly into the handcrafted interior. When turned on, two acoustic lens speakers emerge quietly from either side of the dash. The placement of these motorized tweeters provides 180 degrees of horizontal dispersion of high frequency sounds.

However, the tweeters are just two of thirteen speakers positioned around the cabin. Five mid-range speakers, three additional tweeters, and three woofers provide acoustic indulgence. One of the woofers spans 200mm and is positioned beneath the rear bench.

The speakers are all powered by Bang & Olufsen's ICEpower technology. Aston describes it as "a fusion of high output power and hi-fi sound quality with ultra-compact design and sleek, functional operation." The whole system was acoustically tuned for the DB9 by Bang & Olufsen's tonmeisters. A Digital Signal Processing (DSP) unit manages the sound stage and timing of each of the thirteen speakers to further enhance clarity.

Will the BeoSound DB9 audio system match the sensual sound from the 5.9-liter V-12 audio unit under the hood? We'll let our ears be the judge. We have sampled Bang & Olufsen's Danish craftsmanship in the Audi A8 (a $6300 option) and can't wait to hear it in the DB9. Aston didn't mention pricing in its release, but the expect it to be just as pricey, if not more expensive, than the system in the Audi.
